Rihanna is breaking into the acting world with her big screen debut in the upcoming Iceberg Slim adaptation, Mama Black Widow.

The Caribbean singer will be star alongside Mos Def, Macy Gray, Anthony Anderson and Kerry Washington in the flick, following one family’s journey from the red dirt of racially divided Mississippi to the Chicago ghetto in the 1930s.

The story centers around the main character, Otis Tilson - played by Stomp The Yard actor Brian J. White - who struggles to maintain his family in the underworld of Chicago; wading through alcoholism, pimping, sexual deviation and racial degradation. Rihanna will play a character named Carol, Tilson’s sister.

According to IMDB.com the script, adapted from the novel of the same name by the iconic author and pimp, Iceberg Slim, is said to stay true to the original writer’s voice.

The movie is currently in production with no in-theater date set as of yet.

Rihanna has revealed that after taking the pop world by storm, she’s planning on launching at attack on Hollywood - and her own fashion lines.

She told the Sun recently: “Acting is something I’ve always been interested in and, living in LA, I meet lots of people involved in that world.”

“I also want to get into the fashion industry, start some clothes lines and use my entrepreneurial skills.”

But that’s not to say she’s dumping music just yet: “This career is what I have dreamed of my entire life. I am enjoying experiences of a lifetime.”

“I am travelling to places like Japan and Africa which I would never have done if this all hadn’t happened. I am performing and making music that reaches people all over the world and, most importantly, doing what I love.”
